NS Adjusts Intercity Direct Timetable to Schiphol from 5 August Due to Lower Top Speed
Last week it was announced that the top speed on sections of the high-speed line (HSL) must be further reduced, following an earlier announcement that the speed had already been reduced due to hairline fractures in the construction. From 5 August, NS will adjust the timetable for the Intercity Direct to and from Schiphol. In the revised timetable, trains will be given an extra 3 minutes to travel between Rotterdam and Schiphol and vice versa.
By extending the journey time by 3 minutes and adjusting the departure and arrival times, NS hopes to achieve more punctual services from 5 August onwards. This is particularly important for the many airline staff who use this train to travel from Breda and Rotterdam to Schiphol.
No Solution in Sight Yet
The problems have been known for some time, but there is no immediate solution in sight. NS wants to discuss the issues with the operator, Infraspeed. If these problems are not resolved, future ambitions to run more frequent and faster services may be jeopardised.
“There is no visibility on the repair and maintenance work for the viaducts. NS continues to urge for prompt repairs so that the HSL can once again offer faster train journeys and a reliable timetable to passengers in the short term,” the railway company said in a statement. The travel time on the line has already been extended by several minutes on multiple occasions.
